Our mission
Visible Hands Collaborative uses guided conversation between members of a community (defined by characteristics such as shared interests, socioeconomic status, occupation, cultural background, age, ethnicity, or geographic location) as a solution to the US mental health emergency.
Integrative Community Therapy (ICT) is based on an international practice known
Terapia Comunitária Integrativa, which creates a safe space to share life experiences and wisdom, with each participant becoming their own therapist by listening to the life stories that are told, sharing in the responsibility of seeking solutions and overcoming daily challenges in a warm, welcoming environment. This accessible, effective method does not rely on referrals, doctors, insurance, or wait lists, and offers immediate, no-cost access to any person needing mental health support.
Visible Hands seeks to demonstrate ICT in primary health care and community organizations in economically distressed, socially excluded communities. We will pursue a formative evaluation, do outcome research, and achieve sustainability and wide-spread dissemination. ICT’s capacity to advance health equity through structural changes in the social and community context is the focus of our research.

“The only expert in the room is you, because you’re the expert of your own experience.”
Dr. Adalberto Barreto, Creator of Terapia Comunitária Integrativa
